Episode 83 discussion

I think I better post this before I lost the opportunity to. It's my turn (chalp) for discussion ^^

First of all, I apologise for the short discussion compared to those before mine ^^;; I'm not cut out for long discussions.
There's some spoilers for the later episodes concerning the White Crows.

I've highlighted a few points in this episode.

Characters
Layla's mother: She still looks the same as she did in the previous season. Even though she is sad that Layla is leaving but she didn't forbid her to marry Antoine. She put her children's happiness before hers like any mother would do.

Layla's sister: At first I thought she was the baby sleeping in the forbidden box in the previous season. Turns out I was wrong ^^;;

She looks the same as before. Anyway, it seems that she doesn't understand that Layla is not coming back after she married because she doesn't seem sad about it. I wonder if they kept the secret from her but I guess that's impossible.

Layla: I feel Layla is still the same, brave and strong. You know, I was actually surprised that Layla chose Antoine over her family. I don't know, maybe I feel Layla is more of the family-type ^^. Like Conrad said, she's very determined. Even though she misses her mother, she has already decided to marry Antoine.

Antoine: Antoine grew up so much! Like Layla's mother said in the previous season, Antoine is everyone's son ^^. He's more confident now even though a bit clumsy XDD He's another character that developed a lot, just unfortunately he's not one of the main characters.

Efee: All I can see from her is she's good at cooking and making snacks ^^. But the snack that she made for Antoine is... interesting XDD

Traditions
Now the traditions of Franshire, once the Queen enters the castle, she must never see her parents again. It sounds like the typical medieval tradition.

Note: In _miyuchan_'s summary, the sword is called Earth Sword but in the sub it's called First Sword. I'll just call it Daiichi no Ken ^^

The Daiichi no Ken is very important for the king's wedding ceremony. I wonder if the sword signifies something about tying the Queen to the kingdom. At the end of the episode, Antoine breaks the sword and thus breaks the tradition.

Sword-stealing bandits
This marks the beginning of the White Crow saga! Until now we still don't know what's the purpose of stealing those swords. Luckily, Antoine's Daiichi no Ken is not needed.

Conrad as the king of Big Shimaron
This episode has Jeneus's first appearance. I wonder why he wants Conrad to be the king of Big Shimaron when in later episodes, he helped Lanzhil. It's so nice to see Conrad reject it immediately since he will only serve Yuuri.

Relationships
Layla and Antoine: They are one of my favourite couple in KKM. Their relationship is so sweet and strong enough to break an old tradition.

Layla and Conrad: Conrad made Layla believe in herself and Antoine. That is a big impact on Layla's life. If Conrad never met her, I think Layla will still be doubtful and distrustful.

Last episode for one month!!!
I hope everyone will enjoy this episode because we'll have to wait August to get more KKM, infact from next week the OVAs 2-3-4 will be aired and then on 31st the serie will be on a break.

And since this is the last time for one month, here also the raw, I thank cutie_p on aarinfantasy for sharing it, it took 3 hours to upload it again...stupid connection >_<

KKM Episode 14 The moon reflected in the water

"Shouri" = Yuuri in Shouri's body

Past
Boston
Christmas time

Child Yuuri and Young Shouri have just finished decorating the Christmas tree, then Yuuri asks Shouri what kind of present he asked to Santa Claus, Shouri answers a game, Yuuri instead asked for the moon.
Adult Shouri's voice says "you always asked for impossible things and made it hard for me..."

Title
Present

Yuuri is in his studio with Gunter, Wolfram, Conrad, Murata and Greta, but instead of working, he is studying maths.
Greta asks what is this all about and Murata explains that Yuuri is studying, next week they'll have the test for the end of the semester and he has to study a lot.
Gunter comments on how Yuuri works so hard in both worlds.

But then Murata comments that it might be hard to study in Shin Makoku since time passes different, they don't even know if it's still one week or less before the test, Wolfram says maybe it's better if Yuuri goes back and study, maybe he would be able to pass it even with the short time he has on earth.

Yuuri decides to go even if he has no confidence in passing the test.
At that point Anissina enters with a new invention, she has this hat called "Remember everything while you're sleeping Taro-kun"
If Yuuri puts that on his head he will be able to remember everything.
Gunter tries to stop her but Yuuri says he will use it when he is on earth.
We see them in the bathroom, apparently everyone else ( Murata, Wolfram and Conrad) will follow him.
During the small wet trip, Murata's coat falls off of him, that's why we can have the view of his cute butt XDD

Earth

Miko is commenting that Yuuri is late, maybe he forgot that time passes differently between earth and Shin Makoku and is having fun there...
Meanwhile Shouri is playing one of his ero-games.

Yuuri and the others are back, Miko is so happy to have them all there and says she will make her famous curry.
~~And yes, considering the position Yuuri is in, Conrad is touching Yuuri's butt XDDD~~

Murata says they are happy to be there and can't wait to eat Miko's curry, Shouri comments on how he should at least show a little more of politeness.

End of the dinner, Murata leaves.
Yuuri is studying and Miko goes to him asking if he want something, food or anything else, but he seems quite serious in his study and tells her to let him study alone.

While studying he looks at the hat Anissina gave him and he is tempted to put it on, but also scared because he can't rely on something she invented...

Shouri comes in the room and asks his brother how it's going, then he sees the hat and comments that Yuuri still plays with these kind of things.
Between one thing and another, while discussing (with Yuuri trying to take the hat away from his brother) Yuuri ends up with the hat on him, a light comes from it and Yuuri faints.

So now we hear "Yuuri"'s voice but understand there is something wrong when we see "Yuuri" saying "You slept a lot"
Then, always "Yuuri" says "are you ok, big brother?"
And we see Shouri getting up and panicking he asks for a mirror that's when Yuuri realizes he is in Shouri's body

In Shin Makoku Anissina is explaining that the hat actually changes the body of the ones that put it on, Dorkas was unlucky because he exchanged body with Ao.

Now, we see "Yuuri" very calm explaining "Shouri" what might have happened.

Shouri in Yuuri's body seems quite ok about it and Yuuri asks him why, Shouri says he seems calm but actually if he can't go back into his body...he'll have always to being his loved little brother's body and won't be able to actually touch it. (or something on this vibe..)
Yuuri in Shouri's body asks him to not say embarrassing things.

Wolfram comes inside and says they called the doctor, both Yuuri and Shouri say "thanks" and Wolfram asks why Shouri too is answering...

"Shouri" then tells "Yuuri" that they have to keep it secret, after all Yuuri doesn't really want to worry his parents of his friends...

The doctor is checking "Shouri" while "Yuuri" seems to be having fun in telling him that he found out a new game being released and that if they can't go back into their body he will have to use Yuuri's body to go to Akihabara and buy it.
At this Yuuri panicks and screams while the doctor is checking him.

At breakfast we find out that the exam is actually the day after and Miko says Yuuri has to study.
"Shouri" answers says he wasn't able to do anything and so he'll go back to study after finishing the meal. Wolfram again asks why Shouri should be the one working hard and study.

"Yuuri" explain that "his big brother is just saying that Yuuri has to work hard"
"Shouri" tells him to stop calling him like that (read= "big brother")

Then "Yuuri" coming near him tells "Shouri" that he doesn't have to study, since now he is in another body, "Shouri" says "maybe going back to Shin Makoku woul help..." but then would they be able to go back in that state?

Them we hear someone at the door, Rodriguez is there to get Shouri, they have a schedule and so "Shouri"is taken away while "Yuuri" looks at this pleased.

From here I'll use the names of the real persons and not the actual bodies so we won't get confused but of course Shouri is still in Yuuri's body and Yuuri is still in Shouri's body.

Yuuri is at Bob's place he is practicing because Bob loves this kind of sports.
They start to fight, or better, it takes Bob one move to make Yuuri fall but apparently Shouri's body remembers the moves because he manages to not fall.

In Akihabara. Shouri in Yuuri's body is walking followed by Conrad and Wolfram.

Wolfram asks if it's ok to go around without studying for the exam, he says it's ok, he has the confidence to get the maximum.

Then he stops and tells them he has to talk about something. After the explosion of yesterday.
he then starts to talk about the Earth maou and shin makoku's Maou

Wolfram asks if he is ok and tries to check his temperature, Shouri takes his hand away and then asks them, are you ready to protect your Maou? What are your goals?
Conrad says he wants to protect the Maou obviously, Wolfram says "he is Yuuri's fiance so.." But Shouri stops him, his question is if he is ready to give up his life for the one he loves..
Wolfram says of course and so he asks them to prove him that.

Basically he had them go between all the ones who wanted the game and had them getting the game for him...that's why at home Wolfram is so tired.
Shouri thinks he will use these two until Yuuri won't get his body back.

Meanwhile Yuuri in Shouri's body is still getting beaten up from Bob.
Yuuri asks him why he is so interested in fighting, there is nothing to be scared of and nothing dangerous, the boxes are all sealed again.
Bob says it's for Yuuri's sake, Shouri said he wanted to protect Yuuri.
But Yuuri (In Shouri's body) says that there is no need for that strenght, his younger brother is able to walk alone now...
Bob says : what do you understand? Go home to your brother.
Apparently Bob understood that Shouri is not Shouri...

Home

"Shouri" comes back and finds Wolfram and Conrad massaging "Yuuri" while he plays the new game.
He is angry when he sees that "Yuuri" actually used them both to get the game. He says they are his precious friends and he doesn't want for them to be used like that.

They start to fight while Murata gets there and stops them. He figured out everything and finally the others too realize it.

Apparently Miko too figured it out and also Conrad (wtf why in that summary it was said that Conrad and Miko too switched, they didn't, they just figured out everything)

"Shouri" says to go back to Shin Makoku, in the small garden Murata asks if in that body he will be able to use Maryoku.

Then "Yuuri" looks up and see that there is a full moon, like on that evening so many years ago.

Flashback
Child Yuuri says he wants the moon, young Shouri says it's impossible even for Santa.
Then he goes to take some water that puts in front of the window, the moon gets reflected there and Shouri says "yes we got it"
Yuuri says it's not like that, with this moon they can play catchball.

Present
"Yuuri" concentrates and from the water, the moon comes out
We hear real Shouri thinking that from that time he promised, one day he would be able to have the strenght to get Yuuri the moon.

Shouri says he can't become the Maou of Shin Makoku but he wants to help Yuuri as earth Maou.
Yuuri says he is not a child anymore, which yes, it's true but Yuuri will always be Shouri's younger brother.

When Yuuri and Shouri get the moon/ball they exchange again.
They all leave for Shin Makoku while realShouri, Miko and Shouma remain on earth.

Yuuri is back in his body finally.

Then we see Yuuri in his studo and Murata coming to call him.
Yuuri is being sentimental watching the moon but Murata says "Sorry to interrupt you but, did you forget why you went on earth?"

Apparently he forgot about the test of the end of semester!!^^;; Poor Yuuri.

Waaah that was so hard to summarize because of the exchange!
I hope it was understandable, but I'm sure that watching it you'll grasp everything!

Episode 82 subbed discussion

This discussion for episode 82 was written by me, tiam_atardecer. The insights on this post are my own and do not reflect the views of fandom as a whole or the other mods of this journal, only my own. ^^ Don't forget to check the rules here and have fun!!! :D

Also I want to add that I hope my discussion isn't too weird because I tend to see some details that may look random to some people ^^'.

I think what was the most unexpected surprise is that most of us thought it would be a cute filler and it turned out to be a very dark and sad episode, but that showed us a lot of emotion and that somehow was a hint of what was going to happen in the future, that we were going to see darker episodes in this season.
^^ It seemed also that some people didn't seem to like it that much, because of the weird and creepy look of the bearbees when they transformed. I don't blame them :).

But let's start with our discussion :).

Shin Makoku's laws for the protection of endangered species
I probably look a lot into things but there were a lot of things in this episode that were very interesting for me.
One is that it made me curious about the laws for the protection of endangered species. We have been mentioned that bearbees are in danger and that it was probably a miracle that they chose some months ago their nest in the castle.
I mean, we saw in season 1 (episodes 19 and 20) that dragons are also an endangered species and that they have an area, protected by several traps, where they can live peacefully.

So it makes me wonder what happens to bearbees then? Aren't they as protected as dragons? Is it really ~~legal~~ to breed them without permission? Okay, maybe I'm going too far XD.
I think it'd be interesting to know more, since bearbees are Shin Makoku's national symbol, right? :P

Greta and her fathers
For many episodes we have seen Greta mostly interact with either one of her parents, but a very few times with the two of them at the same time. And it was really nice to see how much Greta loves both for equal, which was her reason to name her bearbee mixing both their names.
Also, it was really funny to see that Greta knows how to use her charm with them and how they cannot resist to it XD ~~who could? really~~
In the case of Yuuri and Wolfram, we saw how much their love for Greta has grown with the pass of time. It's interesting, especially with Wolfram, who used to dislike humans and now considers Greta an important member of his family.

Sparkles were added for dramatic effect :)

Suspicions
It was very curious to see that everyone but Yuuri, Greta and the people of town (probably) didn't notice at all that there was something unnatural going on with this new breed of bearbees. It was mentioned a lot, especially by Günter, that it's very difficult to breed them.
Also it got more evident, when the seller told the guys not to let Yuuram get near water. Conrad was the first one to mention that it wasn't known that bearbees disliked it. At this point, it makes me wonder what is known about bearbees and if it's only known by the people in the castle only. ~~Do we know if Shin Makoku has a library? oO (maybe I should stop with my random thoughts.)~~

Minor characters
Being able to see more of Dacascos and Sangria made me happy, because we really don't have enough of minor characters, especially because it's a way to know more about them and, I think, also a way to see how their daily activities are, and not only seeing them as comic relief.

Mud dolls
When it was mentioned that those bearbees were mud dolls, the first thing that came to mind was a golem and made me think that a lot of magic was really needed to create a fake bearbee, but to make it have a personality. And if we take into account that not only one mud doll became a fake bearbee, but at least 50.
Even Wolfram mentioned it would require a lot of magic to create them, which makes me think that a very powerful person or group of people is behind all this, and that even if there weren't any casualties, who knows what would have happened if the bearbees hadn't been stopped by the Maou.

Greta's strength
For a little kid who has suffered a lot in the past, I think we have seen a very strong Greta since she appeared. And this episode showed it a lot. She was the one who decided to be the lure for the behalf of Yuuram and the other bearbees, even if it was obviously painful for her.
We saw Wolfram and Yuuri trying to find another solution for the problem they were facing, but I think that Greta's resolution was what convinced them to go ahead and face the problem in that way.

Yuuri as Maou
Since the previous episode, I think, we have seen how much Yuuri seems to control his Maou powers more now and that he has grown a lot.
I know a lot of people might not agree with this, but I think that what motivated Yuuri to transform (or the Maou to appear) was so Yuuram wouldn't transform like the rest of the bearbees and, in a way, to save it. It was probably a painful decision since all of them were trying to protect Yuuram and Greta, but it was, maybe, the less harmful thing to do. I also think, though maybe I'm looking a lot into things, that it could have been also a way so Greta could remember Yuuram as her beloved bearbee and sibling and not as one of those 'things'.

Greta and Yuuram
Even if it was for a very short time, and even if Yuuram was a mud doll, I think their short relationship was really sweet. Not only was Greta able to feel that her current family was growing, but also she was able to feel what was to love someone else and feel loved.
I'm not sure how the personality of the rest of the fake bearbees was but we saw a very curious and mischevious Yuuram, who loved and protected Greta twice.
It was indeed very sad what happened to Yuuram, but I think Yuuri was right when he said that Yuuram was happy to be with Greta. And even if what happened was very unfortunate, Greta is a strong girl and will have memories of Yuuram.

Episode 82 and the movie Gremlins
XD I think it was pretty obvious that the animators got inspired by that movie. We all saw in both movies how cute mogwais were before they transformed into Gremlins and how dangerous it was for them if they got in contact with water, because they'd multiply.
However, they used water in this episode so the bearbees would become evil instead.
^^ I guess it wasn't much of a surprise, because we have seen references of other things on the series (and novels) or at least them being mentioned, especially by Yuuri.

Although, I guess no one would have thought that cute bearbees could look scary.

Other general stuff

I had comments about other stuff, but they're probably to random, so I put them here :).

-Shin Makoku's market
I'm probably the only one attracted to little details like this that show us a bit more of how people in town live, since we see a lot how things in the castle are managed (to some extent).
Also, I really don't understand why the guys used their costumes, but Yuuri didn't use his wig and lenses. Because we have seen in the past that black hair is not common and, for that reason, how much protection Yuuri needs from possible attacks. So, I wonder...Did the animators forget about it, the guys don't care anymore, or people in town don't mind to see their king hanging around there XD.

-Gwendal
Gwendal's reactions when he sees something cute never cease to amaze me. This time we saw he just froze there blushing with just hearing "nogisu". And it was also funny to see Conrad's smile and Yozak's knowing smile to him. It seems they know Gwendal too much to know about his weak point :P.

-Music
I think the music was perfect in this episode, giving some scenes a more dramatic feeling when it was necessary.

Hello everyone,
sorry for this late announcement but as you could realize we didn't have any Saturday chat session this week and no chat session was held last week too.
It was because all of us mods were and still are very busy with real life and it's getting hard to be around (even if only to summarize the episodes;_;)

Plus, we are still going to have the discussions about the subbed episodes (even if they will slow down and continue in a small future, probably around the time when the OVAs will be aired instead of the actual episodes to keep us alive while waiting for the new episodes...)

Episode 81 sub discussion.

Here follows the subs discussion for episode 81.

This discussion post of episode 81 was written by toshimalfoy and all the views therein are my own and do not reflect the views of this community or anyone other than toshimalfoy. Please check here for the rules and then please join in.

Also, just to let you know I wasn't as organized as my awesome predecessors, but I was just so excited to get everything in-- And dealing with a lot of things at the moment-- Anyway I hope you enjoy it. <3

First, I think this has been my favorite episode of the newest season so sorry if this gets a bit long.

I love that the letter breaking the engagement was re-read. It's so emotional for me every time.

Wolfram's guards: They are pretty win, and not seen all that much, which is a shame. They are pretty consistent with their character designs throughout each season which is nice. ~~Particularly because I have named some of them in my own head.~~ Little tidbits of their respective personalities continue too... it makes my overly detail oriented brain happy.

Greta: Completely breaks my heart in the first scene. She is just so adorable and sad! It breaks my heart that Wolfram doesn't say goodbye to her. ~~That they show at least.~~

The office scene: I think we learn a lot about everyone's relationship with Wolfram in this scene at the same time we are learning about Wolfram's relationship with Waltorana. Greta is heartbroken. Yuuri is worried for his friend (but makes sure to point out he is not concerned about the broken engagement). Conrad is the first one to speak about where his little brother has gone and probable reasons why. Gunter is sure to point out Wolframs fail at convincing Waltorana to re-instate Yuuri as the Maou. Murata calls Wolfram Waltorana's "cute nephew". It goes on and on. It was great.

Human v. Mazoku Politics: Finally! I was so happy to hear more of this, and I really hope as the season continues we can see the depths of this dynamic explored more and more. I felt Greta's little human presence... and the whole "aging-angst" thick in the air even if it wasn't spoken. On the not quite so angsty side I adored Conrad's talk about how years don't mean that much to mazoku (a category he put himself under there, I can't wait to hear more about his decision and his past... perhaps someday?) but that spending what time they can together is precious. Conrad is so good a talking sometimes, he's like the perfect bridge to explain the harsh politics and realities of Shin Makoku to Yuuri's Eartly naivety and good hearted-ness.

Waltorana's disapproval of Yuuri: I was so pleased! Waltorana tells Yuuri things he definitely needed to hear. What he does not say exactly... but is between the lines, I feel is the most important part. Waltorana says that Yuuri as Maou must be able to put Shin Makoku before his other world. Yuuri says he made his decision a long time ago... but to me, instead of thinking about how Yuuri decided to take being the Maou seriously, I was reminded of the fact that when given the choice between Shin Makoku and Earth... Yuuri chose Earth. He left Shin Makoku-- his responsibilities-- everyone behind.(He even promised Greta he would return) and he left. He left for what he thought was for good. Waltorana had every right to question Yuuri's dedication. Yuuri needs to be more aware of his role as Maou, and how slipping between worlds (having his cake and eating it) will affect his life.

The Duel: I love how it takes Yuuri so long to believe Wolfram is serious. I can really get the impression that even when Yuuri picks up the knife-- and for the majority of the duel-- he is just waiting for Wolfram to tell him it's a joke, or otherwise explain his reasons. I also love how sad Wolfram looks after he grazes Yuuri with the fire lion-- just enough to let him know he's serious. And then finally he provokes the Maou-- who growls-- and pushes everyone back. I loved the growl. But the best thing in the whole episode for me-- is Wolfram's face. The moves from terror-- realization-- to acceptance. It was beautiful. I fully believe that Wolfram thought those would be his last words. It was also wonderful to see two sides of Yuuri/Maou so strongly. That the Maou would have been able to destroy Wolfram once he believed he betrayed him, and that even at the last second after he figured out what Wolfram had done Yuuri was able to control that level of power. Yuuri wouldn't have been able to do that in the beginning-- it really shows how much control he has gained during the times where he wields the Maou's power.

Yozak during the duel: Win! I adored him at the beginning: "So... um... we're going to intervene right? If things get bad?". Later: "Okay so I'm going to stop them now--" Murata: "Sit. Stay." ^_____^ I was a little conflicted about how I felt about some of the other's reactions-- particularly Conrad-- I wanted to see more from him during that time.

Side note on Gwendal showing up with the nobles: "Seven nobles, I haz them." In his pocket? It was so random but great-- I suppose I'll forgive them ending the arc so fast since I enjoyed where they did end up putting their air time for the most part. (also seven above, because Gwendal isn't counting himself or Waltorna and there is the one other member who wasn't at the meetings to begin with)

Side note on Waltorana: I want more! He was so obviously in pain when things were happening with Wolfram, and Conrad says how much the man likes Wolfram, but he kept his emotions in check very well, which he had to considering his political and social standing during that moment. However, every time he was shown with Wolfram-- Wolfram didn't seem too pleased. Of course, this could just be because of the political situation going on every time we saw them, and Wolfram's discomfort at becoming Maou in the first place. But still. Moar! 0.0 (Also, I would have loved to see the nightmare Shinou gives him.)

Re-engagement: It was sort of... politically shaky? But I suppose Yuuri won the duel? And Yuuri never did anything to confirm Wolfram's renouncement. They don't want to change things so suddenly I suppose. I thought the scene was very cute though, the best parts were where Wolfram's face was hidden and Yuuri babbled about how they were family and gave him the gift from Miko. It seemed like Yuuri didn't even know what he was trying to say. He seemed to talk about how other people's relationships in-between himself and Wolfram made them family. Greta calls him father, and Yuuri's name-giver is Wolfram's brother ect... but I do think Yuuri was happy to have his friend back in a "normal" capacity again. Wolfram probably would have acted very differently around Yuuri without the engagement being there between them, as he showed by not allowing himself to enter the room while Yuuri was in his pajamas. Wolfram's conclusion-jumpings and joy were bittersweet, but I do enjoy his perv-factor whenever he thinks Yuuri is pleased with him.

Episode 80 subbed discussion

This belated discussion for episode 80 will be held by me, crystaltear. The insights on this post are districtly my own and are not to reflect the views of fandom as a whole or the other moderators of this journal. As we discuss this episode, please keep the rules in mind and make sure you have fun! :)

Episode 80 was a transitional episode, in which there were three major points:

1. Continuation of Yuuri's Coming of Age Ceremony through the episode, which results in Yuuri and his kingdom accepting him as an adult and the Maou of Shin Makoku.

2. Learning of the nobles' meeting and the details of choosing Wolfram as the new Maou. We also learn as Yuuri does the complications that had no arisen with Yuuri's return. While most seem to have accepted Yuuri's return as an end to the issue of who claims the title of Maou, the question of whether the nobles will accept it, especially Wolfram's uncle, is left up in the air.

3. Wolfram's breaking of his engagement to Yuuri and his taking leave of Blood Pledge Castle.

Character Development

While we see many of the characters in this episode, I'm going to focus on the main three that remained in my thoughts after watching the episode.

Yuuri: I was really impressed with the change in Yuuri's maturity level with this episode. Although there has been a span of time between season two and season 3, the plot itself seems to indicate that not a great amount of time had passed from Yuuri's leave and then return in episode 78. That being said, Yuuri, who when given the choice between Shin Makoku and his home on Earth decides to return home, seems to have finally embraced his role as the leader of the country even when he is able to be rid of the responsibility. I thought the conviction that was reflected in the assuredness of Yuuri's vow inside the temple in front of the nobles shows the viewer that our little Yuuri has grown up. :)

Wolfram: Wolfram too, displays a maturity in this episode that I found interesting. The viewer gets to see his fierce loyalty to both his family and his country, and he decides to do what he believed to be right in the situation even though it must have hurt him greatly to do so.

Conrad: When Conrad offers Yuuri his freedom from the position of the Maou, I got the impression that as the person who pretty much fostered Yuuri's existence and lead him in becoming the Maou, he was letting Yuuri know that there was no obligation to follow the path Conrad had put him on. It also seemed to be, to me, showing that Conrad's loyalty to Yuuri surpasses that of his country, which I do not believe was the case in the past.

End Notes

As a transitional episode, 80 leaves us with more questions, especially revolving around Wolfram's objectives and if there will be later resistance to Yuuri's reign. This small arc was quite a way to start up the series and get the fans of this series interested in it again. Sort of unrelated, I really enjoyed the quality of the animation of this episode, and I sort of miss it.
